Conservation genomics of the Endangered North Atlantic right whale

PROJECT LEAD

I am a Senior Scientist at the Kraus Marine Mammal Conservation Program at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life (ACCOL) at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. I’ve been researching North Atlantic right whales since 1986, and the ability to recognize and track individual whales using photo-identification has kept me hooked ever since. I now manage the North Atlantic right whale photo-identification catalog (rwcatalog.neaq.org). My primary areas of interest are right whale behavior (including associations), disease, and genetics. I’ve worked closely with Dr.s Tim and Brenna Frasier for more than two decades. Under the Genome Canada grant, I am responsible for coordinating all genetic sample collection, linking the genetic samples to records in the Catalog, and assessing candidates for the epigenetic component of the work, among other duties.
